A large portion of the more than 13,000 acres of Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is covered by bottomland hardwood forest. Water at the park is abundant, as it borders the Mississippi River and has two lovely fishing lakes, where guests can fish from a pier, the lakeside or a boat, as well as a swimming pool open during the summer. The park's Nature Center is open on select days throughout the year, providing educational and fun exhibits and short programs for children and families. Located less than 20 miles north of downtown Memphis, the park provides a beautiful escape from city life, with overnight options ranging from campsites to furnished cabins for six.
